Domaine des 2 Clés, future star of Corbières... and Languedoc!
Gaëlle and Florian Richter produce great wines from Languedoc in the Corbières appellation at the Domaine des 2 Clés.
We were immediately impressed by the elegance of their cuvées, all made from the most noble local grape varieties: maccabeu, carignan, and various types of grenache.
Gaëlle, an oenologist, and Florian, the son of a renowned German importer, met during an internship in Burgundy. In 2015, they founded the domaine des 2 clés.
Located in Fontjoncouse, it is one of the highest and coolest terroirs in the region. The vineyard spans 12 hectares and features an impressive collection of century-old vines.
The wines are produced following organic and biodynamic principles. All best practices are applied, and the investment is substantial for such a young estate: the harvests are manual (in small crates), and the yields of the first vintages were very low due to particularly strict sorting (12hl/ha!). In the cellar, the winemakers use native yeasts, and the wines are aged in concrete vats or French oak barrels (not new for certain cuvées). Their work style is inspired by Burgundy but the wines have their own identity. They are concentrated, yet finely balanced with freshness. Each cuvée shows a class and elegance rarely found in this appellation, which is why we selected this promising estate from its first vintages!

After a few years of research, the Franco-German couple settled in Fontjoncouse, cultivating old vine plots. Their barrel aging is meticulous. 91/100 RVF. With dark fruits and a smoky minerality, this cuvée reflects the domaine. Great expertise, great discretion... and a lot of pleasure, especially for the most patient!

The young winemakers had to present a "cuvée prestige" to showcase their qualitative ambitions. This is achieved with this "Réserve," which isolates their best juices from their oldest vignes (very few clusters, but ultra-concentrated berries!) in a long-aging, rich cuvée that time will soften.

It is this dry white Corbières that introduces us to the domaine and especially the talent and skill of the young winemakers who manage it brilliantly. Crafted like the finest wines, following the rules of the trade, aged in barrels but not excessively... And organic to boot! Simply superb, and at €20 it's a steal.
