Vignobles BERTHIER - Clément et Florian Berthier
Clément and Florian BERTHIER are established in Sancerre, but also and mainly in Coteaux du Giennois (and moreover, in Menetou-Salon!).
A great Loire winegrower directed us to this family estate, which is full of promise. Managed by two talented brothers, its main handicap is that it offers exhaustive and very precise variations of an almost unknown AOP Coteaux du Giennois... which is excellent for our prices, and even more so, your quality/price ratios.
Coteaux du Giennois: magnificent terroirs, which have little to envy to the illustrious neighbours Sancerre, Pouilly and Menetou-Salon...
Florian, with his experience in Burgundy and New Zealand, manages the vineyard until the harvest. Once the harvest is in, Clément takes over in the cellar, and is in charge of the vinification and marketing.
The winemakers make it a point of honour to "touch" the wine as little as possible, each cuvée being treated separately, from the gentle extraction of the press (pneumatic, nothing is too good!) to the fermentation (indigenous yeasts) and then the maturing and protection thanks to the CO2 resulting from the fermentation rather than too many sulphites...
The vineyard is worked using environmentally friendly practices: grassed vines and ploughing under the rows, respect and enhancement of bio-diversity. Yield control, leaf removal, disbudding, alternative natural practices to fight against parasites.
The philosophy of the winegrower brothers: "It is with our personality and our youth that we have thought, shaped and perfected these vintages. We have combined our knowledge and passion to create refined and complex wines.
