Christophe Curtat, among the best winemakers in Saint Joseph.

Christophe Curtat
Christophe Curtat produces several great wines in Saint Joseph: saint joseph red "Nomade" and saint joseph white "Sous l'Amandier". A rising star among the young winemakers of the Rhone valley.

Spread over 80 km of the right bank of the Rhone between Ampuis and Valence (or between Condrieu and Cornas to speak AOP), Saint-Joseph is sometimes called "Cote Rotie". In the shade of this rare and expensive appellation, Saint Joseph has magnificent syrahs at much more affordable prices ... but the quality is still very heterogeneous, and you can find there mediocre wines as monuments! Who already tasted his Saint Joseph knows that Christophe Curtat produces red and white wines belonging to the second category!

Christophe Curtat confessed about the beginning of his career as winemaker to the magazine "Le Point" (which devoted one of his Special Wines article to him in 2010): "The trigger was Yves Cuilleron. I often bought wine to him. He said to me: you spend all your time with us, you are a farmer's son, you know it's cold in the winter and hot in the summer, you like to taste wine, go for it! "I started in 2005 with a small piece of vine in leasing, that we all drank with my friends. In 2006, I found 1 hectare to rent [to Pascal Jamet] and I started to sell wine.I have all the time squatted at others' [ Francois Villard, Yves Cuilleron], that's why my wine is called "Nomade". I helped in the vinification process in exchange for the rent of the place. Today I have 4 hectares and I will finally be able to vinify in my own cellar "

Since 2010, CC (he keeps his initials, and has made his logo from them!) is settled, vinifies in impeccable facilities, which allows him to reach a new qualitative level ... without turning pretentious at all! If you haven't bought them yet, it's time to cellar his superb Saint Joseph. Explosion of red fruits and fine flowery notes (violet of course), well-measured wooden breeding, structured but still smooth. Add balance, length, and good potential for aging: everything is there, in red as in white!
