Louis Roederer, one of the last family houses in Champagne
Louis Roederer house produces top-class champagnes from 3 grape varieties: chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. Cristal is the emblematic wine which has made the domain famous.
Founded in Reims in 1776, Louis Roederer house has existed for more than 2 centuries. Louis Roederer inherited the champagne house in 1833. Visionary and entrepreneur, he created his own style and went against the grain of what was done at the time. Instead of buying grapes, he chooses to enrich his vineyard and acquire the best plots.
Louis Roederer II takes over and pursues the same vision of champagne. He will even succeed in making his champagnes travel to the table of Tsar Alexander II. It is moreover for the Tsar that he created the famous wine "Cristal".
Today managed by Frederic Rouzeau, 7th generation, the champagne house is still family-owned (it's rare!). With his cellar master Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, he perpetuates the unique style that makes the success of the house.
The vineyard covers 240 hectares in the premier and grand crus of the Marne, and includes 410 plots. The grapes are harvested by hand and the vinification is parceled. Committed to organic certification in 2018, the vineyard is managed according to the principles of biodynamics.
Thanks to Cristal's worldwide success, the house has acquired international notoriety. Pure, straightforward champagnes that age spectacularly.
