Champagne Jacquesson, a big name of Champagne
Jean-Herve and Laurent Chiquet produce great Champagne wines with strong personality at the Jacquesson estate. The famous champagnes numbered 700 and the top-flight single vineyard champagnes in premier crus and grand crus make the originality and the reputation of the house. Located in Dizy (in Marne), the estate has 30 hectares of its own (no rental of vines or purchase of grapes), mainly planted with Chardonnay but also Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The two brothers knew how to impose their style and reinvent Champagne.
The vineyard extends over 2 regions of Champagne: Marne valley with its grand cru Ay and its premier crus Dizy and Hautviliers; "Cote des Blancs" with its Grands Crus Avize and Oiry.
The Champagne house was founded in 1798.
Napoleon I was one of its illustrious ambassadors, who largely contributed to its fame. Another highlight in the history of the estate, in 1844, Adolphe Jacquesson filed the patent for the "muselet" (the famous capsule which holds the cork stopper and prevents it from escaping under the pressure of the CO2 resulting from the fermentation).
In 1974, Jean Chiquet bought the estate. His sons Jean-Herve and Laurent are now at the helm of this typically family artisanal structure. With their innovative methods, they are operating a real revolution in the domain: yields divided by almost 2, use of oak barrels, organic farming method. Innovation is also being done with wines: the famous numbered wines replace the "brut without year". It is a great originality for Champagne. These wines are each the reflection of a particular year. They therefore have a different profile each year, unlike "brands" which are looking for the same taste each year. the "700" are available in "classic" or "late disgorgement" to benefit from a longer aging on slats.
Single vineyard wines are also in the spotlight to faithfully reflect each its terroir. The localities are: Dizy-Corne Bautray, Avize-Champ Cain, Ay-Vauzelle Terme, Dizy-Terres Rouges.
In the vineyard, the winemakers opt for the most qualitative cultivation methods: little amendment, short pruning, plowing the soil, organic treatment for the majority. The vinification is carried out in oak casks.
An essential house, very popular with lovers of great Champagne wines, which has become a real benchmark. Unfortunately, the volumes produced are very low, and our availability each year will be confidential.
