Camp-Atthalin, authentic wines from Savigny, Burgundy
The Camp brothers produce at Camp-Atthalin estate fine Burgundy wines in appellation Savigny-Les-Beaune and Hautes Cotes de Beaune. The red wines are 100% Pinot Noir, while the whites come from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
Located in Savigny-Les-Beaune, the estate covers 5 hectares. The Atthalin brothers are from a family of winemakers. They were born in Burgundy, and spent their childhood in Pauillac, in Bordeaux. Their father was oenologist. The name Camp-Atthalin comes from the association of the name of their father, Jean-Louis Camp, and their mother Isabelle Laurent-Atthalin.
In 2017, the Atthalin brothers take over the vines to exploit them.
Jean-Philippe Camp has a solid background: National Diploma of Oenology, Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, University Diploma in Applied Biology Technology. During his studies, he met Jean-Philippe Bret (Bret Brothers) with whom he became friends. They share their philosophy of organic and biodynamic. He has done internships in famous estates like Bouchard Pere et Fils in Beaune or Chateau Rauzan-Gassies, 2nd Grand Cru of Margaux.
Jean-Edouard Camp has a BTS viti-oeno and has been cellar manager for 10 years.
Very attentive to the environment and the respect of the soil, the winemakerts decided to convert their vines into organic and biodynamic (only 4 estates are now certified organic in Savigny). From the 2020 vintage, Ecocert and Demeter labels will appear on the bottles. In the meantime, they use only certified organic or biodynamic inputs, and plow with trackers (which have a very weak action on soil compaction) or even on horseback for certain plots of 1er cru. Since then, earthworms - among others - have multiplied and naturally spread the soil.
In terms of vinification they are very little interventionist in order to bring out the best expression of the terroir in their wines. Each plot is vinified and aged separately, which allows the development of micro-cuvees with a very limited number of bottles.
Endearing winemakers and an authentic estate to discover without waiting!
