Cosse Maisonneuve, a reference in Cahors

matthieu-cosse-catherine-maisonneuveCreated in 1999, Cosse Maisonneuve estate was born from the association of two talented winemakers: Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve. Matthieu Cosse, oenologist graduated from the oenology institute of Bordeaux and former rugby player, has already been making wine at Chateau La Coste in Provence since 2006. Catherine Maisonneuve, straight out of the famous Chateau Leoville Las Cases, has a BTS diploma in viticulture and oenology.
Having no local roots, but perceiving the great potential of the terroir, they came together to produce fine Cahors wines.

A few years later, the talented duo expanded their estate, which today comprises 17 hectares, with mainly Malbec grapes, but also Merlot, Gamay and Cabernet Franc.

The biodynamy is part of the philosophy of the estate, which allows them to obtain grapes that perfectly transcribe the identity of the terroir of Cahors. Strict principles and a viticulture that respects nature: harvest by hand, small yields, accurate and fair winemaking.

The wines of Matthieu and Catherine are surprising, antipodes to the rustic wines of the region: fine and elegant wines, structured with a high ageing potential.

The new ultra fruity cuvée from the domaine, made from young Malbec vines. An unpretentious bottle, like the winemakers who created it (and yet, what talent!), to be enjoyed without delay, and during the summer, why not slightly chilled in a champagne bucket filled with fresh water but without ice! A tip: have a second bottle not too far away!

A new cuvée that is extremely rare, without appellation, made from siderolithic clays. "A Bomb of cabernet franc!" according to Matthieu Cosse... who is still astonished by the enthusiastic reactions of the tasters - including yours truly - when they taste this new cuvée for the first time. A velvety revelation!

"VP" = Prolonged Aging. The domaine kept a portion of its 2020 vintage to offer it a prolonged aging of four years in total, released in March 2026 for our greatest pleasure. What a brilliant idea in the service of your taste buds... We have tested and validated the impressive contribution of a long aging (effective only in a very great year).

The king grape variety in the land of the Châteaux de la Loire is featured in this box. You will be surprised, if you are patient, by the ability of cabernet franc to evolve beautifully over time. You will also be impressed by the "faux Cahors" from Catherine Maisonneuve and Matthieu Cosse, who have a true admiration for this grape variety and therefore...

95/100 RVF. A Cahors made from old Malbec vines aged 60 years on limestone scree. This 2021 is quite appealing even in its youth, in 2023 upon its release. However, it will age well for many years in a good cellar. Best enjoyed before the powerful 2020.

98/100 RVF. The largest cuvée of the domaine Cosse-Maisonneuve in malbec, although the "little" newcomer, Sidérolithe, 100% cabernet franc, will likely overshadow it a bit in the future!
