Domaine FONTCHÊNE - René Milan - Provence
Domaine Fontchêne is a wine estate nestled in the heart of the Alpilles, in Provence.
Driven by a paternal heritage and a growing passion for the vine and nature, René Milan cultivates his grapes with deep respect for life. He relies on the principles of biodynamics and artisanal practices to produce sincere, authentic, and refined wines.
Inspired by his father's teachings and his experience at Château Romanin (a pioneer of biodynamics in Provence), he chose a sustainable viticulture guided by close observation of nature and the lunar calendar.
Since 2014, the estate has fully embraced the principles of biodynamics. The soils are energized with natural preparations applied at the right time to enhance the plant’s energy. No herbicides are used; treatments are minimized thanks to gentle pruning, careful debudding, and natural ground cover, all promoting balance and vitality in the vines.
Each grape variety is cultivated using a tailored method to fully express its potential: Mourvèdre in trellised bush vines, Syrah in cordon de Royat, Cabernet Sauvignon in double Guyot. Special attention is given to grape maturity, ensuring balance and precision in the wines.
In the cellar, the work aims to preserve the expression of the fruit and the terroir. Harvesting is done by hand in small crates to avoid crushing the grapes. Each grape variety and plot is vinified separately to highlight the unique terroirs and specific characteristics of each variety.
