JB Senat, among the best winemakers in Minervois ?
Jean-Baptiste Senat produces fine organic Languedoc wines, in appellation Minervois. In his wines, he uses the best local Mediterranean grape varieties, mainly Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre and Cinsault. He is unanimously recognized as a leader of the elite of Aude winegrowers.
Located in Trausse Minervois, 25 km from Carcassonne, on the foothills of the "Montagne Noire", Senat estate covers 15 hectares. He practives organic farming and is Ecocert certified. The soils are composed of clay limestone and siliceous lentils from the garrigue.
JB Senat graduated in history and political science and worked for a few years in Paris, then "fled" the capital after the strikes of 1995 which decided him to return to the roots, on the lands of his family. He then took over the family estate and by dint of hard work, his first vintage was born in 1996.
His enriching meetings with famous winemakers, as well as the reading of the brilliant precursor of "natural wine" Jules Chauvet, allow him to determine with conviction what types of wines he wants to create.
He is helped by his wife Charlotte, who takes care of the commercial and administrative part.
Little interventionist, he does not use any synthetic product, practices manual harvesting, uses indigenous yeasts and no inputs. Today a renowned winegrower and talented winemaker, he pruns his vines in goblets, and favors whole harvests. The result is wines with character, fresh, fine and complex.
