Denis Jamain and his biodynamic Reuilly
Denis Jamain produces fine biodynamic Loire wines in Reuilly appellation. Located in Berry, the vineyard covers 21 hectares: 12 ha planted with sauvignon blanc, 5 ha with pinot noir and 4 ha with pinot gris.
The story begins in 1935, when the grandfather of Denis Jamain plants his first sauvignon blanc in Reuilly. In the early 90s, Denis took over the family estate. Very concerned with the environment and respect for the terroir, he obtained organic certification in 2007, then converted to biodynamics (Demeter certified since 2011). The vineyard covers 4 localities: Les Coignons, Les Pierres Plates, Les Chatillons, Les Conges. Reuilly has been recognized as an AOC since 1937 for whites and it will be necessary to wait until 1961 to have the appellation for reds.
The vines are planted mainly on clay-limestone soil of the Kimmeridgian type. It is a rich soil, which allows to bring to the wines a great minerality. The south-south-west facing hillsides benefit from a lot of sunshine and allow early harvests.
With great respect for the terroir, Denis Jamain follows the lunar calendar. Helped by his head of culture, Patrick Ragu, he uses no chemicals, a minimum of sulphites and uses indigenous yeasts.
He has a modern cellar, with perfect hygiene. The wines are aged in barrels for at least 12 months, the vinification is as natural as possible. Thanks to his other passion, trees (he takes care of a family forest 15 km from Reuilly), he can choose the trees that will be used to make his barrels for his reds.
Authentic, fine and precise Loire wines that join our selection this year!
