Aurelien Chatagnier, one of the best winemakers in Saint-Joseph.

aurelien-chatagnier-rhone-saint-joseph-sybariteAurelien Chatagnier is one of the rising star of northern Rhone. His reputation comes from his master in the art of winemaking for his magnificent Saint Joseph "Sybarite". It is also necessary to discover the whole range, both in red and white: behind reasonable prices hide great wines!

Aurelien Chatagnier started in 2002 with 1.2 hectares of leasing, mainly planted in appellation « Vin de Pays ». He kept a side job until 2005, which allowed him to grow slowly, with the help of some volunteer winemakers (like Pierre Gaillard).

Today, the estate covers over 6 hectares: 2 in Saint Joseph red, 1 in Saint Joseph white, 1 in Condrieu, 0.2 in Cote-Rotie, 0.2 in Cornas and 2 in PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Rhodanian wines (for the cuvee "Crêt Louison", 1400 bottles produced each year, from a superb plot of old vines, and the rest in simple syrah and viognier).

The vineyard is spread over 3 counties: Rhone (Cote-Rotie), Loire (Saint Joseph) Ardeche (Condrieu, Saint Joseph and IGP

As far as possible, no pesticides or chemical fertilisers are used in the vines.

Why should you buy Aurelien Chatagnier’s wines ?

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Jeb Dunnuck, déc. 2015). Training under the likes of Jamet and Francois Villard, the young Aurélien Chatagnier is a vigneron to watch. Starting in 2002 with just over one hectare of rented vines, he now farms ten hectare of vines located around the village of St Pierre de Boeuf, which is at the northern edge of Saint Joseph. He makes an elegant, perfumed and more finesse driven style of wine and he’s done well in 2013.
