The Great Terroirs of Roussillon
Long associated with neighboring Languedoc, Roussillon has emerged as one of France's most exciting wine regions thanks to a handful of visionary winemakers and an exceptionally diverse geological heritage. Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains, the region produces distinctive wines sought after by enthusiasts around the world.

Our selection highlights some of Roussillon's most respected producers, all widely regarded as ambassadors of the region's finest wines.
A Unique Geological Mosaic
Roussillon forms a natural amphitheater bordered by the Pyrenees and open to the Mediterranean. Its complex geological history has created an extraordinary diversity of soils, including limestone, black schist, marl, gneiss, granite, rolled pebbles and red clay.
This remarkable variety of terroirs explains the diversity of wines produced throughout the region and allows each grower to match grape varieties perfectly to their most suitable vineyard sites.
The Main Appellations of Roussillon
Côtes du Roussillon and Côtes du Roussillon Villages
The Côtes du Roussillon and Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellations cover a large portion of the vineyard area. They produce predominantly red wines based on Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, alongside characterful Mediterranean white wines.
The Terroirs of Maury, Tautavel and Lesquerde
In the northwestern part of the region, black schists, limestone and gneiss create some of Roussillon's most renowned terroirs. The areas of Maury, Tautavel and Lesquerde produce powerful and deeply expressive wines shaped by their distinctive geological origins.
Collioure and Banyuls
At the southeastern tip of France, the vineyards of Collioure and Banyuls plunge dramatically into the Mediterranean Sea. Vines are often planted on steep terraces overlooking the coast. Poor brown schist soils force the roots to penetrate deeply into the ground, resulting in concentrated and intensely flavored wines.
The Key Grape Varieties of Roussillon
Red wines are primarily based on Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Mourvèdre. White wines commonly feature Grenache Blanc, Macabeu, Vermentino and Roussanne.
Thanks to old vines, naturally low yields and the influence of the Mediterranean climate, these grape varieties produce wines that combine power, freshness and elegance while expressing a strong sense of place.
The Leading Estates of Roussillon
Our selection brings together the producers who have played a major role in establishing Roussillon's international reputation, including Domaine Gauby, a pioneer of modern winemaking in the region, Le Clos des Fées founded by Hervé Bizeul, Le Roc des Anges led by Marjorie Gallet, and Olivier Pithon.
Their wines rank among the most sought-after bottles from southern France and perfectly illustrate the exceptional potential of Roussillon's Catalan terroirs.
