Winemaker's Comment: For this cuvée, I sought to combine finesse and elegance. Zélée is an age-worthy wine with fine and elegant tannins.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski, January 2022): 89/100. The 2019 Saint Joseph Zelee features hints of campfire smoke and Ribena on the nose. It's full-bodied and supple, with an almost creamy mouthfeel and a long finish. I just wish it showed a bit more complexity. Drink date 2022-2028.

Grape Variety: Syrah

Blend: 100% Syrah from several plots of vieilles vignes (old vines), about thirty years old, in 3 communes: Ardoix, Charnas, Limony. They are located on granitic soils, facing south/southeast.

Aging: For this year, there are 90% new barrels. "That's how it happened this year, but it might change from year to year" says the winemaker.
