Domaine Rostaing Côte-Rôtie "Viaillère" red 2020 (3 bottles)

95-98/100 Czerwinski/Parker. The return of a cuvée from a single vineyard once crafted by Albert Dervieux, the father-in-law of René and the grandfather of Pierre Rostaing. Pierre Rostaing has done significant work in the vineyards in recent years, and the result is impressive, as always in the Rostaing family.

Domaine Rostaing Côte-Rôtie "Viaillère" red 2020

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski, January 2022): 95-98/100. While this vineyard suffered immensely from frost in the spring of 2021, the 2020 Côte-Rôtie la Viaillère looks amazing. Marked by vibrant, intense notes of purple raspberries and violets, this is full-bodied, rich and velvety, with wonderfully fine tannins and a nearly never-ending finish. While La Viallière is not my favorite lieu-dit, this is truly special. Drink date 2025-2040.

Technical sheet written by the domaine:

The return of a cuvée that disappeared since 1996 and reappeared in 2016, from the old vines of syrah planted by the winemaker's grandfather on the plot "La Viaillère".

This cuvée is made from whole bunches, with the juices aged for 18 to 22 months in oak barrels of 1 to 4 wines of 600 liters (or demi-muids).

This is a wine that will refine greatly over time, still young in 2023. It's the character of this plot!
