Domaine Stephane Ogier "La Rosine" (syrah) red 2022

La Rosine established the initial reputation of the domaine Stéphane Ogier. These old syrahs without appellation, adjacent to his Côte-Rôtie plots (and aged for 1 year in the same barrels), have greatly contributed to this! Be careful, this is not a "small wine"; it is a wine meant for aging (5 years).

La Rosine (syrah) red 2022 by Stéphane Ogier

Our comment:

La Rosine
is Stéphane Ogier's "heart" cuvée. Simple Indication Géographique Protégée (IGP, formerly "vin de pays"), it proves that it is possible to vinify great wines with talent and means, even without an appellation. In the 1980s, Michel Ogier recognized the immense qualitative potential of his granitic terroir of La Rosine, located just on the edge of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, on the slopes of Tupins and Semons, in the south of the AOC. He decided to stop delivering the grapes from this parcel to the cooperative and rolled up his sleeves for his first "bottling at the domaine". This marked the beginning of a long quest for ultimate quality, now perpetuated by his son Stéphane and praised by the Guide Bettane et Desseauve 2015: "We bet that in 5 years the domaine will become as cult as Chave on Hermitage"!

La Rosine has remained a symbol at the Ogier estate and receives special attention. It is now aged for 12 months in barrels that, when new, housed the great Côte-Rôtie wines of the domaine. A great way to appreciate the winemaker's talent at a lower cost, if one overlooks the appellation on the label!
