Côte-Rôtie "La Belle Hélène" 2020 by Stéphane Ogier

RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2025 (Sept. 2024): 97/100. La Belle Hélène is of magnificent distinction, with a silky mouthfeel and much refinement. Its aging integrates beautifully with the fruit.

Jeb Dunnuck*: 99/100. Côte-Rôtie La Belle Hélène 2020 is pure elegance and finesse! With fabulous aromas of blackcurrant and dark fruits, accompanied by wildflowers, violets, rose petals, and subtle truffle and iron notes. It is a full-bodied Côte-Rôtie, incredibly structured and concentrated with flawless balance and ultra-fine tannins. This cuvée typically requires some cellar maturity, but its purity and fluidity make it almost impossible to resist today. Nevertheless, do your best to forget a few bottles for 4-5 years. The Belle Hélène will flourish in cool cellars over the next two decades. MATURITY: 2028-2049.

* Jeb Dunnuck is a former taster for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate for French wines, he has now created his own English-language guide, this French translation was provided to us by the domaine.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Y. Castaing, May 2025): 99+/100. Crafted from vines planted on Côte Rozier, a pure schist and mica-schists terroir, the 2020 Cote Rotie La Belle Helene emerges as a breathtaking contender for the vintage’s top wine. Offering up a charming, delicate, complex bouquet of iris, violets, dark berries, dark cherries and rose petals, complemented by subtle black truffle accents, it's full-bodied, layered and seamless, with a multidimensional core of fruit and filigreed, fine-grained tannins. It is supported by bright acids and superb dry extracts, giving it a vertical, ethereal finish. La Belle Helene is a cuvée that historically benefits from patience, representing one of the finest contemporary expressions of Côte-Rôtie I have encountered, and it stands on the brink of achieving a perfect score in the coming years. DRINK DATE 2028-2054.
