Domaine Georges Vernay Cote Rotie Maison Rouge 2019 red wine:

Terre de Vins ("our selection of festive wines", Nov. 2022) : The Vernays excel not only in Condrieu. This plot of old vines nearly a century old, particularly difficult to work between the small terraces, produces a refined and fresh wine with notes of spices and dark fruits, along with fine, tight tannins. A delight for the palate. Perfect with roasted quails with truffles.

La Revue du Vin de France (Feb. 2024, "The best syrahs in the world") : 93/100. The wine appears a bit more evolved than its age, with initial notes of black olive, mocha, and "decadent" fruit. The palate, fresher, is still vibrant and offers great pleasure. Long and sanguine, it possesses a beautiful personality.

Grape variety: 100% SYRAH, average age of the vines: 50 years
Vineyard: The very rugged vineyard makes mechanization impossible. The vines are maintained manually. Treatments are carried out with organic products.
Planting density: 10,000 plants/hectare

Annual production : 8,000 bottles

Pruning : Simple Guyot goblet

Harvest : Manual, at full maturity in crates

Vinification : In wooden tanks and open barrels. Partially destemmed harvest. Long maceration of 3 to 4 weeks. 

Aging : 24 months in barrels. 30% new wood.

Cellaring : To be enjoyed between 5 and 20 years
