Domaine LABET, produced in Chateau de la Tour
Labet, Burgundy and Corsica
In the heart of prestigious Cote de Nuit, Chateau de la Tour rises in the upper part, not far from the Cistercian mansion, inside the enclosed walls of the Clos Vougeot (the birthplace of Burgundian viticulture).
The area of the Domaine's vineyard is a little less than 6 hectares. He is by far the most important owner of Clos de Vougeot.
The first vinification dates back to 1930 but its notoriety recognized around the world is due to the arrival of François Labet already owning his vineyard with high-end appellations located mainly in the Beaune commune in 1986. Substantial means, helped by the famous bourguignon oenologist Jean Pierre Confuron were deployed to produce great wines.
The vineyard has been certified organic since 1992 and planted exclusively in Pinot Noir, a grape variety adapted to the clayey-limestone soils of the Clos Vougeot plot.
The grapes are harvested in wicker baskets so that the oxidized juices of the broken berries can drain. They are sorted and not destemmed. The alcoholic fermentations start alone thanks to the native yeasts, naturally present on the berries of grapes.
The breeding takes place mainly in new oak barrels, which gives wines of very great care. To avoid spoiling the wine, all bottling is carried out by gravity and without filtration. A guarantee of quality at a price remained wise for a Burgundy of this dimension.
2 vintages are produced at the Clos Vougeot of the Chateau de la Tour: a classic vintage and a large vintage of old vines in small quantities (3,000 bottles).
François Labet also produces a Mediterranean "Burgundy" in Corsica. He has a holiday home in Corsica and has fallen in love with the terroir. He thinks the higher areas of the island will be perfect for Pinot Noir. Unlike his Burgundy wines, the fruit is completely destemmed, then the wine is aged in vats and oak barrels. The vineyard is located on the west coast of Corsica, 35 km from Porto Vecchio. It covers 25 ha and enjoys exceptional sunshine.
