Roc des Anges "Carignan 1903" red 2022

Commentary written by the domaine: This is our "root" wine with which everything began. Vigorous, it guides us more than we guide it. Its strong character demands patience. Ultimately, the carignan on these schist soils delivers a wine that is as silky as it is expressive.

Cuvée from 3.5 hectares of carignan planted in 1903.

Carignan is decidedly a grape variety of warm and dry climates, perfectly suited to produce southern wines imbued with harmony and elegance.

At Roc des Anges, on poor and draining schist soils, it finds a terroir that suits it and beautifully expresses fruit, spice, flesh, character, and minerality.

Tips for opening our wines: Decanting is recommended, not for reasons of reduction but for the wine's development or "awakening." Do not serve too cold as it would cut off the minerality and mouthfeel (which tightens with cold), leading to less understanding of the wine.
