Domaine Trapet Gevrey Chambertin red 2023
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (William Kelley, January 2025) : 89-91/100. The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Village delivers aromas of raspberries, cherries and incense, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and lively palate, concluding with a saline finish.

3 ha, 8 plots
Complex, subtle, and assertive, the lieux-dits of Gevrey-Chambertin are among the most renowned in Burgundy. The reason is simple. The vast area, which spans no less than 450 hectares, offers a unique and rare diversity of terroirs ranging from lias marl on the slopes to gravel of the crais. From these terroirs arise wines with a square roundness!
Let us walk together through these places which, once lovingly chosen, compose our Gevrey-Chambertin village.
Let’s start with the first of them. In Dérée, a superb plot located halfway up the slope towards the small village of Brochon, well-exposed and well-drained, it forms the powerful backbone of our Gevrey. Its name likely evokes "the desert" or land fallow resistant to any cultivation because it is difficult to work.
The Champerrier plot, neighboring the first, gives us wines that amaze with their density and texture. This is our oldest vine in Gevrey, planted by Pierre Arthur TRAPET in 1913.
Now let’s approach the old castle and the center of Gevrey, where our Clos de Combe is located. Surrounded by beautiful dry stone walls, it offers us firm and colorful wines, with a full and flavorful body. The word Combe here refers to the place where the relief is notched and carved.
Towards the Grands Crûs, the Petite Jouise shows its beautiful "queulles" of about fifty years. Its name reveals the existence of gallows forks in the Middle Ages. Justice was exercised here by the lord. Fortunately, this vineyard has lost its wooden forks, replaced today by trellises that support a vine with grapes of great finesse.
Finally, let’s conclude our journey at a well-named place, Vigne Belle; a place where the vine is beautiful and thriving.
