Chateau Pesquie Ventoux "Quintessence" dry white 2022
91/100 RVF - 92/100 Czerwinski/Parker. One of the "Grandes Cuvées" of the château in white. Made from the oldest vines of the domaine, with a meticulous aging in barrels, and a very seductive "mineral turn" for about ten vintages. A sure value from the south.

Château Pesquié Ventoux "Quintessence" dry white 2022
RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2024 (Sept. 2023): 91/100. "A well-matured palette with a beautiful juicy Roussanne without heaviness. Notes of apricot, hawthorn, wisteria. The juice is beautiful, ample, vinous but retains a lovely energy. A mouthfeel that asserts its southern profile without imbalance or the drawbacks of Mediterranean Roussanne. A nourishing yet harmonious wine. Peak 2023-2027"
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski, May 2024): 92/100. An 80-20 blend of Roussanne and Clairette, the 2022 Ventoux Quintessence Blanc was bottled in May 2023 after aging in a mix of concrete and demi-muids. There's a hint of sweet corn on the nose, then more appealing notes of white peach and lime zest. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, plump and welcoming, but it's still focused and long on the finish. DRINK DATE 2023-2027.
Technical sheet written by the domaine:
Description: At Château Pesquié, the Chaudière family has always known that Ventoux, thanks to its cool microclimate and its limestone soils at altitude, is a terroir for great white wines. To demonstrate this, they created the Quintessence white. This cuvée of great elegance is a fresh, rich, and complex wine made from a large majority of Roussanne, to which Clairette adds balance, produced in extremely limited quantities.
Soil: Vineyards of clay-limestone gravel located on a hillside facing west at an altitude of about 300 meters.
Grapes: 80% Roussanne - 20% Clairette.
Winemaking: Due to differences in ripeness, Roussanne and Clairette are initially vinified separately. The early-ripening Roussanne undergoes cold skin maceration, followed by pressing and settling. Fermentation then takes place in barrels with a relatively short aging period (4 to 5 months). The later-ripening Clairette is vinified in stainless steel tanks and blended with the Roussanne once it is out of barrels, all in concrete tanks. Malolactic fermentation is blocked. Bottled at the château.
Tasting: Color: White gold with brilliant reflections. Nose: Complex with a mix of white flowers, exotic fruits, and spices (saffron). Palate: Very nice balance between freshness, the wine's tension, and a lovely roundness; aromatic intensity with scents of flowers, spices, and a beautiful minerality. Salinity and finesse.
Food & wine pairings: A wonderful match with truffle (risotto), white meats (chicken in cream), fish (sole), cooked cheeses (Comté, St Nectaire), and aged goat cheeses.
