Domaine Miolanne - Laure Cartier and Jean-Baptiste Deroche

domaine-miolanne.jpgLocated at the foot of the Massif du Sancy, Domaine Miolanne was created in 1990 by Odette and Gilles Miolanne.

In 2012, Laure Cartier (a daughter of a winemaker and a sustainable development advisor) and Jean-Baptiste Deroche (oenologist) joined forces to take over the estate and start an exciting journey in the Puy-de-Dôme.

The vineyard now spans 17 hectares, with 11 hectares of vines spread across 3 different terroirs. Two volcanic soils: one consisting of pumice and volcanic ash from the eruption of the Massif du Sancy, the other basaltic, from the Chaîne des Puys, and an argilo-calcareous soil.

The estate grows 6 different grape varieties, from the more classic varieties of the Côtes d’Auvergne appellation: Pinot Noir, Gamay, Chardonnay, to others that are somewhat more atypical for the region: Syrah, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris.

The different cuvées are made under the AOC Côtes d'Auvergne and IGP Puy-de-Dôme appellations.

Since taking over, the two winemakers have chosen to work their vines with respect for organic farming and obtained organic certification in 2016. The vines are cultivated without chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or synthetic pesticides. Their next goal is to move toward biodynamics.

Very attached to their terroir, they hand-pick their grapes and have chosen to carry out plot-by-plot vinification. Both the red and white wines are neither inoculated with yeast nor filtered to enhance their complexity.

Why buy wines from Domaine Miolanne?

Because we love them, and we believe these wines truly deserve a place in your cellar! But as some of our customers have said, "we’re not objective, since we tasted and chose them to sell: we are interested." That’s why we prefer to "defend" our selection with reviews from major wine guides, which are more objective than we are:

Guide RVF des Meilleurs Vins de France 2025: This discreet estate located at the foot of the Massif du Sancy is a reflection of the dynamic winemaking in Auvergne. When Laure Cartier and Jean-Baptiste Deroche took over in 2012, they converted the estate to organic farming and planted new grape varieties. The range is particularly coherent, with a focus on the bright and defined character of the fruit, drawing the best from basaltic and argilo-calcareous soils. The Syrah is particularly successful, proving the adaptability of the grapes to climate change.
