Great Wines of Languedoc

The great wines of Languedoc have a recent history. Unlike regions that have been world-renowned for centuries, such as Burgundy and Bordeaux, the greatest estates in Languedoc (in terms of quality, of course) did not exist 40 years ago. Some excellent winemakers weren't even born! Yet the vines are sometimes centuries old, and the terroirs are unanimously recognised as varied and superb. Above all, the recognition they have begun to receive from experts over the last two decades has given the best winemakers the material means to manage their vines well and produce great wines. In short, this is a region with a bright future where very good deals can still be found. The great wines of Languedoc are often made mainly from the most common grape varieties: for reds, Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, and for whites, Marsanne, Roussanne, Maccabeu, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Clairette... as well as a multitude of other local grape varieties and just as many potential blends, whose expression and quality depend more on the talent of the winemaker than on the ‘official’ appellation on the label.

For collectors who don't want to buy whole cartons, but want to discover the complexity of Peyre Rose. This is a mixed case of the estate's three red cuvées, Belle Léone, Les Cistes and Marlène n°3, in their 2012 vintage, which has finally left the estate's cellars after 10 years of ageing.
