Mas de L'Oncle produces a superb Pic Saint Loup, red wine from Languedoc.
Re-launched in 2011 by Fabrice Bonmarchand, the Mas de l'Oncle is experiencing an impressive renewal under the leadership of its new owner. This 10 hectares vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir. In organic conversion from the beginning, the first vintage certified organic was 2015.
Vines and soils are maintained almost manually and fed with organic compost. The harvest is done in boxes, by hand, to keep the grapes in good shape until the winery.
As you understand, Fabrice Bonmarchand invests enormously to make great wines.
The estate even has an interesting specificity: 1 hectare of chenanson grape variety created by the INRA of Montpellier a few decades ag. It is a hybrid from grenache and black jurancon . This grape variety is vinified alone and aged 1 year in barrels to give birth to a unique cuvee: "Denis" (in IGP Saint Guilhem du desert appellation), named after the uncle of the former owner.
The other wines are extremely classical and representative of what is best in Pic St Loup: grenache, syrah and mourvedre are vinified separately, without exaggerated extraction. Then they are blended and aged in barrels to give wines of character with velvety finesse and perfect balance. A future famous estate of Languedoc.
