Champagne Gosset "Grand Blanc de Blanc" Brut :
RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2021 (Nov. 2020): 94/100. It imposes its refinement, its gently creamy texture, a beautiful length, and above all, a very fine bubble.
La Revue du Vin de France (Dec. 2019): An elegant definition of chardonnay, with a youthful fugue that immediately refreshes the palate. It expresses a vegetal touch characteristic of the 2015 base in the finish. Best enjoyed young, paired with iodized verrines.
Bettane and Desseauve Guide 2020 (Aug. 2019): 17/20. A great muscular and deep chardonnay. Lively yet ample character, bouquet of citrus zest, white fruits, and finely buttery notes: a superb blanc de blancs in line with the house's vinous and intense style. Food pairings: pasta and risottos with mushrooms, seafood, roasted chicken, shellfish, canapés, and petits fours.
Hachette Wine Guide: ★★★ (Exceptional wine). What elegance! And nothing flashy in this brut that takes care of its appearance, displaying a gold and silver robe animated by light and tonic bubbles. With restraint, the nose reveals airy fragrances of menthol, pastry, dried herbs, dried fruits, and toasted notes. On the palate, it relies on an acidity that offers liveliness at the attack and tension to its silky, finely aromatic, and perfectly balanced texture. The added bonus? A salty and iodized presence that reminds us that the best Champagne vines plunge their roots into marine chalk. A noble champagne.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (William Kelley, Sept. 2021): 92/100. The latest rendition of Gosset's NV Brut Grand Blanc de Blancs reveals youthful aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, and almond paste. Medium to full-bodied, bright and fleshy, with tangy acids and a pillowy mousse, it concludes with chalky grip. This Champagne's structure suggests that it should develop gracefully in the cellar. Drink date 2021-2035
Technical sheet written by the domaine:
Comments from Cellar Master Odilon de Varine: "In our palette, we were missing a Blanc de Blancs. We wanted to integrate it into the existing range while preserving the house's style. It reflects the finesse of the Côte des Blancs and the structure of the Montagne de Reims."
100% Chardonnay, the Grand Blanc de Blancs is the precious concentrate of the terroir from about fifteen villages of the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cuis) but also from the Côte des Noirs with whites (Villers-Marmery, Tours-sur-Marne, Trépail). All these expressions of Champagne, complexities, and aromas have allowed for the exploration of numerous rich and refined avenues of work, culminating in this exceptional cuvée.
Vinification and aging on lees to avoid any premature oxidation. Malolactic fermentation carefully avoided to preserve the naturally fruity aroma of the wines and ensure perfect conservation.
Brut dosage (6 g/l) to maintain the balance between freshness, fruitiness, and vinosity, without masking the character of the wine and its purity.
Minimum aging of 3 years in the cellar at a constant temperature, much longer than the legal minimum of fifteen months.
Architecture: 100% Chardonnay
Cellaring: Minimum 3 years in the cellar
Disgorgement: marketing at least 6 months after disgorgement.
Villages: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Villers-Marmery, Trépail…
Dosage: 6 g/l Serving temperature: 8°/10°
TO THE EYE: The fine and present bubble rises to the surface with lightness. The robe is a pale golden hue.
ON THE NOSE: The nose, both mineral and floral, reveals aromas of flowers and white fruits, apricot, mirabelle, and, in very light touches, notes of tangy yellow lemon, citrus, quince paste, and sweet honey. ON THE PALATE: On the palate, white flowers blend with slightly toasted fragrances. Silky texture and harmonious palate for this lively and structured champagne.
AT THE TABLE: This cuvée, all finesse and elegance, is the ideal companion for aperitifs. Its freshness also allows for numerous pairings, particularly with scallops, crab remoulade, gougères, fish tartare, oysters, risotto with parmesan shavings, white meats, young and fruity comté, parmesan…
