The domaine JB Senat, the best wines of Minervois?

Jean-Baptiste Sénat produces great organic wines from the Languedoc, in AOP - appellation - Minervois. In his cuvées, he showcases the best local Mediterranean grape varieties, primarily grenache, carignan, mourvèdre, and cinsault. He is unanimously recognized as a leader among the elite winemakers of Aude.

Located in Trausse Minervois, 25 km from Carcassonne, on the foothills of the Montagne Noire, the domaine Sénat spans 15 hectares. It is managed under organic farming and Ecocert certified. The soils consist of clay-limestone and siliceous lentils from garrigue.

JB Sénat holds a degree in history and political science and worked for a few years in Paris, then "fled" the capital after the strikes of 1995, which prompted him to return to his roots on his family's land. He then took over the family domaine, and through hard work, his first vintage was produced in 1996.

His enriching encounters with great winemakers, along with the reading of the brilliant precursor of "natural wine" Jules Chauvet, allowed him to confidently determine the types of wines he wanted to create.

He is assisted by his wife Charlotte, who manages the commercial and administrative aspects.

Minimal intervention, he uses no synthetic products, practices manual harvesting, employs indigenous yeasts, and adds no inputs. Today recognized as a talented winemaker and vinifier, he prunes his vines in goblet form and favors whole bunches during harvest. The result is characterful, fresh, fine, and complex wines.
