Domaine Marc Sorrel Hermitage Le Gréal 2021 red wine

RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2024 (August 2023): 98/100. Le Gréal is a bottle of great stature, with a remarkably balanced palate, featuring fine notes of pepper, cherry, smoked bacon, and licorice. The whole harmonizes, and the tannins are soft. Cellar it for about ten years.

Cuvée from one of the two best lieux-dits on the hill.

For 10% of the Syrah from Greffieux (around thirty years old), and for 90% from Méal (in the heart of the slope), composed of 90% Syrah planted in 1927 and 1928, and 10% Marsanne and Roussanne of about sixty years old. Grapes destemmed or not depending on the vintage, aging in barrels for 18 to 24 months, no fining or filtration.

Tasting: inky color, delicate bouquet of violet, blackcurrant, and musk. Massive yet harmonious tannins, prodigious length. This is a solid wine for aging, capable of improving for fifteen to twenty years.
