Domaine des Creisses "Les Brunes" red 2021 (wooden case)

An exceptional cuvée, named after the color of the basalt from a lava flow where the cabernet-sauvignon that makes it up, among others, grows. The prestigious cuvée is highly sought after by enthusiasts of great wines from Languedoc. Best kept for at least 5 years if possible, except perhaps for the 2021 vintage, which is fresh enough for tasting as early as 2025.

Domaine des Creisses "Les Brunes" red 2021 in wooden case

Technical sheet written by the domaine:

Grape variety:

  • 60% cabernet-sauvignon aged 33 years
  • 30% syrah aged 34 years
  • 10% grenache aged 21 years

Terroir: Clay-limestone plateau of gravel and Villafranchian terraces. Basalt flow for the
Cabernet-Sauvignon.

Viticulture (sustainable protection): Short pruning: Royat for the balance of trellising and ripening. Grass cover every other row. Organic amendments.

Climate: A warm spring at the start initiated vegetation in late March before the freezing night of April 7, which caused a historic frost and significant damage in the region, mostly limited to the lower slopes. The rest of spring was cool, in March and May, with a resumption of vegetation sometimes a month after the frost. A cool and rainy summer with storms starting August 15 made this vintage late. Fortunately, it benefited from a beautiful Indian summer starting September 25. The wines are delicate and fresh with a supple tannic structure.

Yield: 40 hl/ha.

Phenolic maturity: Optimum sought for the silkiness of the tannins and for the wines' longevity.

Vinification: Maceration of 25 days of a harvest always destemmed at high temperature.

Aging: 17 months in new French oak barrels, selected fine grains with medium plus toasting.
