Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape white dry 2023

RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2025  (August 2024): 94/100. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most harmonious, combining a powerful structure with a beautiful mineral identity that gives it depth.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Yohan Castaing, Sept. 2024): 93/100. A blend of 40% Clairette, 30% Roussanne, 14% Bourboulenc, 10% Grenache Blanc, 2% Picardan, 2% Clairette Rose and 1% of each Grenache Gris and Picpoul, the 2023 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc exhales a vibrant, aromatic bouquet of lemon oil, spring flowers, honeysuckle, pear, white peach and spices. Medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced and fleshy, it's enveloping with bright acids and a long, delicate, mouthwatering finish enhanced by menthol notes. Matured in stainless steel (88%) and new barrels (12%) for seven months, the new oak is barely noticeable. It was derived from vines planted on six plots, all sharing the safres soil type. This is a great effort. DRINK DATE 2025-2035

Technical sheet written by the domaine:

VINTAGE:
“A vintage with long and saline finishes”
Very low winter rainfall, beautiful precipitation in May and June, followed by a dry and hot summer allowed for a vintage with generous yields. The fine and regular spring rain was punctuated by a small hail episode one evening in June, which did not significantly affect the vineyard that would produce a beautiful harvest.
The summer continued with pleasant temperatures that did not exceed seasonal norms, and thanks to the protective Mistral, the vineyard enjoyed good health (in a national context affected by downy mildew).
The rainfall at the end of summer was satisfactory in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the grapes were harvested at good maturity from August 30 to September 6.
2023 is the hallmark of a great vintage with this complex, round, and balanced Châteauneuf-du-Pape white.

TERRIOR:
Clay-sandy dominant soils, on the lieux-dits: Montalivet, Le chemin de Sorgues, les Cabanes and Palestor.

VINIFICATION:
No destemming. Harvested early in the morning, the grapes are then pressed, and the selected juices undergo a night of static settling.
Vinification and aging: 84% in stainless steel tanks, 11% in new barrels and one-wine barrels, 5% in 400-liter barrels
