Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt, June 2017): 94/100. The 2014 Schoenenbourg Riesling is very clear, deep, pure and fresh on the nose, very concentrated but still young and reduced in its aromatic expression. This nose reminds me of a quarry populated by trucks and diggers. Full-bodied, round, pure, fresh and elegant with an impressive concentration and firm structure, this is an enormously complex Schoenenbourg with tight tannins and a very long and promising finish. A great dry Riesling! Drink 2019 - 2035.

To the north of Riquewihr, the vines run along the south and southeast slopes of the Schœnenbourg hill between 265 and 380 m in altitude, on a fairly steep slope. This lieu-dit covers an area of 53.40 ha and is established on Keuper soils, marly, dolomitic, and gypsum-rich, which retain water well. They are covered with fine quaternary layers of siliceous gravel from Vosges sandstone and Muschelkalk, while limestone marls from the Lias outcrop at the eastern end.

On the Schœnenbourg, Riesling reigns supreme. Muscat and Pinot Gris also thrive beautifully here.

Renowned since the High Middle Ages, the wines of Schœnenbourg were famous throughout Northern Europe as early as the 16th century. The Swiss cartographer Merian mentioned it in 1663: “The Schœnenbourg where the noblest wine of this country grows…”.

Voltaire owned several acres here.
The Grand Crus Schœnenbourg, excellent wines for aging, develop powerful and rich aromas. The microclimate of the terroir is particularly suited for prestigious late harvests and noble grain selections.
