Domaine des Creisses red 2024 MAGNUM

Grape Composition:

• 35% Syrah from 5 to 44 years
• 30% Cabernet-Sauvignon from 6 to 44 years
• 20% Grenache from 28 to 89 years
• 5% Caladoc from 27 years
• 5% Marselan Alicante from 9 years
• 5% Mourvèdre / Carignan from 25 to 63 years

Terroir: Villafranchian terraces, clayey sands and pebbles for the Grenache and Carignan and now the new plantings of Syrah and Cabernet-Sauvignon. Clay-limestone plateau for the Syrah and Cabernet-Sauvignon of 30 years.

Management (sustainable protection): Short pruning for the balance of trellising and ripeness. Old Grenache and Carignan in gobelet. Royat for all other grape varieties. One row naturally covered with grass, the other sown with fava beans.

Climate: After a dry autumn, regular rains in spring 2024 required very close attention against downy mildew. A dry and hot August, but without excess, was followed by a temperate end of summer and a significant rain episode (80mm) on September 18.
Then, the north wind, dry and cool, both day and night, led to slow and refined ripening (more northerly Syrahs, Grenache, Caladoc, and Carignan with very expressive fruit).
Ultimately, a gentle vintage with fresh fruit.

Yield: 45 hl/ha.

Phenolic maturity: Optimal sought for the silkiness of the tannins and for the longevity of the wines.

Vinification: 20-day maceration of a always destemmed harvest.

Aging: 13 to 19 months
