RVF Guide to the Best Wines of France 2025 (August 2024): Favorite and 96/100. Favorite for the very beautiful Clôture, with a seductive raspberry note, an incredible smooth charm on the palate. A Loire cabernet franc of great stylistic elegance. It promises magnificent aging.

Nicolas Grosbois's opinion:
The cuvée Clôture represents our distant attachment to the work done by our ancestors. The vine as a witness of time and the pleasure of tasting a wine with aromas of licorice and a round mouth marked by very ripe fruit aromas. In our eyes, the expression of a great Chinon.

The gem of 60 ares in the middle of the hillside is a century-old plot, heir to pre-phylloxera plant material, which has managed to withstand the test of time (it is naturally used for the mass selections of the domaine). 2018 is the first vintage of this cuvée, deliberately bottled as early as June 2019 to preserve all its energy and available in winter 2021. Starting from the 2020 vintage, this plot will produce 3000 bottles.
This new cuvée Clôture pays tribute to the old walls preserved by Thérèse, the great-grandmother who refused to see them fall, and which will gradually be rebuilt.
We can speak here of a historic vine, with pre-phylloxera mass selections planted in 1905 on the first rootstocks imported from the United States after the great crisis at the turn of the century.
These vines grow in a cone of alluvial deposits, with deeper soils than the neighboring Clos du Noyer.
It is the extreme cuvée of the Domaine Grosbois, due to the age of the vines, the concentration of the juices, the duration of the aging…

The 2020 vintage
A sunny vintage, 2020 allowed the vine to offer healthy grapes and a generous harvest.

Viti-Vini
• Organic and Biodynamic, “For us, it’s a given”.
• Natural cover cropping and agro-ecology.
• 100% cabernet-franc, “We believe in the unique grape variety, as in the foundations of the appellation in 1937”.
• Planting density: “Initially 4500 vines per hectare, and gradually, with replanting, 6000 vines”.
• Yields: 47 hectoliters per hectare.
• Manual harvesting, total destemming, sorting table.
• Indigenous yeasts, 22 days of maceration.
• Vinification without sulfur, slight addition at bottling, in accordance with the charter of Vins Méthode Nature.
• Aging for 11 months in concrete tanks, “a mineral envelope, a true cocoon to preserve the purity and freshness of cabernet franc”.

Tasting
• Nose: bouquet marked by typical cabernet franc notes: blackberry and licorice.
• Palate: beautiful fruit, the palate reveals a nice tension, the tasting is balanced, sincere, and poignant.
