Domaine du Monteillet is in the Montez family since 1741. Stephane, who succeeded his father Antoine, is the 9th generation in command. The estate is located in Chavannay and extends over 24 hectares on the right bank of the Rhone. It enjoys the lowest annual rainfall in the region and covers 3 appellations: Saint Joseph, Cote Rotie and Condrieu. The vine is planted on terraced slopes called "chaillees".
Before joining the family estate, Stephane Montez traveled and vinified abroad. He spent 2 years in vineyards in England, Australia, California and South Africa. This experience enabled him to improve the vineyard techniques of the estate, but also to realize the uniqueness of his vineyard and its terroir. A must for wine lovers in the region, Stephane Montez has become a sure bet in the northern Rhone.
The wines of the estate come from the following grape varieties: syrah for the Saint-Joseph red and Cote-rotie, roussanne and marsanne for the Saint-Joseph white, viognier for the Condrieu. Harvesting is done manually. The aging is done in barrels, between 1 and 3 years depending on the wines. Centenary aging cellars bring the typicity and the finishing touch. With the recent construction of a new wine cellar benefiting from the latest technical innovations, the wines of Stephane Montez are gaining even more precision and quality.
